At the heart of myMentalPal is a mission to make meditation fun. That desire pushed us to re-imagine what a meditation app should look like. In March 2025, we began to develop our mascots: Spikey, Sparky, Blue, and Zen. As you can see, they have come a long way since.

Why does a meditation app need mascots?
Mascots are more than simple characters to insert in social media posts. We have carefully developed a visual identity, with our mascots at the center of it.
Designing mascots is closely related to the development of a brand. They help represent what we do with visuals that span across language and age.
We connect users to our app and meditation classes through specific emotions. Our mascots create a bridge between feelings and action using shape language,
color language,
Facial expressions,
and actions.
Every choice represents an idea, concept, or feeling. You wouldn’t expect to see Sparky in the color red crying in bed.
A “star” has a positive emotion attached to it, and red would convey anger or passion. And as for crying in bed – that would be all Blue! It would get confusing to our users to mix these all up.
We stay consistent with the shape, language, and color design of our mascots in order to maintain a clear design language for our users to engage with.
Our color design follows an analogous color scheme to cohesively represent emotion and reinforce the connection between color, shape, and feeling.
Each of these four characters represents one of four categories of emotion:
- Spikey represents high-energy negative emotions like anger, annoyance, and impatience.
- Sparky represents high-energy positive emotions like excitement, motivation, eagerness, and ambition.
- Blue represents low-energy negative emotions like sadness, disappointment, confusion, and overwhelm.
- Zen represents low-energy positive emotions, such as calm, relaxation, satisfaction, and zen!
We use these categorizations to guide users to the correct meditation they need in the moment.
This month myMentalPal has also started diving deeper into the personalities of our four mascots, Zen, Sparky, Spikey and Blue, through our meditation class thumbnails, social media, micro-learning book meditations thumbnails app design, and marketing. Using the variety of classes and experiences to showcase
Blue having a bad day.
Or Spikey really fired up!
Zen’s curiosity and imagination.
And the positive energy we always see Sparky sporting.
